Kimber An is Pestered by Protagonists

In the Protagonists' Cafe deep inside Kimber An's twisted imagination, she has her feet propped up on a chair while leaning back on another. A bubblegum cigar sticks out of her mouth and a Royal Flush of poker cards is played in her hand. She picks up a stack of round candy and plunks it down in the middle of the table. "I'll see your six Oreos and raise you three York Peppermint Patties."

The Heroines from her Queryland novels cinch their brows and sigh, studying their own cards carefully.

"I fold," says Olivia, Heroine Mother of Star Captains' Daughter, placing her cards on the table. "I'm an explorer, not a warrior."

"Me too," says her daughter, Junior. "Can I eat my winnings now?"

Sierra, Heroine Mother of Manic Knight, chews the end of her own bubblegum cigar. "Well, I've got junk." She tosses her cards on to the table.

Angelica, her daughter, throws cards in the air. "I'll arm wrestle you for the rest, double or nothing!"
.
Just then, someone crashes through the back window, sending shards of glass all over the floor.

Used to such things, the Heroines hardly glance over their shoulders at the new arrival.

"Kian!" Kimber An rises from her seat. "I told you I'm not ready for your story and I just replaced that window. Now, will you knock it off?"

Angelica thumbs the boy. "That's Kian, Hero of A Beautiful Mind?"

"Yeah. So?"

"He looks just like my David!"
.
"And my Richard," says Sierra, groaning.

"And my Ariez, only older," says Junior.

"And my Edward Delano," says Olivia, shaking her head.

"Delano has brown hair." Kimber An folds her arms.

"Light brown." Olivia takes coffee cup in hand. "It could be considered dark blond."
.
"The point is..." Sierra sips her coffee "...all our husbands and boyfriends look like yours."

"Well..." Kimber looks around for an escape "...my HH is really cute."

"A girl likes a little variety," says Angelica. "Face it, Kimber An, you're in a rut."

Meanwhile, the generic Kian listens to the women discussing him and scratches his head.

Kimber An heaves a sigh and turns to her computer. "All right, all right, I'm supposed to be on a break between stories here." She taps a few keys. "How's this?"

Angelica bunches her chin and nods. "A little Trekkish, but cute. He's a start."
