Thing One-I learned, quite by accident, that Star Captains' Daughter is on Technorati, which apparently tracks millions of blogs. I learned my SCD Playlist post was linked to two sites about ADHD. This is the acronym for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder.
.
In my long career as a professional childcare provider, I've met several children with ADHD. All of them were boys. Unfortunately, they were also all in daycare centers not equipped to truly help them. Rather, these poor little guys were simply tolerated. The thing is these children are sweet, wonderful children deserving of love and attention, but adults who only see the hyperactivity can't stand them. This is a tragedy.
.
There are girls with ADHD, but not so much as boys. As you all probably know STAR CAPTAINS' DAUGHTER is a fictional story and not yet published. While my characters typically jump out of my head fully formed, I needed some way to link Junior to her father, Delano, whom she's unaware of until she's sixteen years old. They needed some shared trait which they could emotionally bond over. And so I gave ADHD to Junior, as well as allergies. Her mother, Star Captain Olivia, and honorary grandfather, Dr. Isaiah Freeman, struggle to help her throughout her childhood. It's only when Junior finally meets her father that she is able to learn control. This is because Delano also has ADHD and has learned to harness it's power through natural means.

Thing Two-
Bella Stander, author publicity person extrordinaire, linked to an author's blog which I've found quite educational. If you haven't visited Bella's blog, you ought to go there http://readingunderthecovers.blogspot.com/ and then pop over to http://jakonrath.blogspot.com/

Oh, one last Thing - I'm going to be making changes to Enduring Romance over the coming week. I'll announce the first changes tomorrow. Happy Sunday, Blog Buds!

A well-written post. Agree with you. I didn't know that attention deficit disorder can be cured untill i came across www.attention-deficit-disorder.net. It took me quite some time, but I've finally overcomed it.
That's wonderful, Bryan. I do have a grown-up friend who has ADHD, as well. Haven't talk to him in years, but he helped inspire how Delano harnessed his ADHD. With anything like this, it seems to require patience and tenacity to develop the understanding needed to cope. Not many people have patience and tenacity. Most people are looking for the fast and easy way, but that way isn't always in the best interest of a child.
